The rain is a drama of Danish production, where the world is devastated by a mysterious virus that kills almost all the Scandinavian population (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) and the only survivors, besides avoiding contagion, must avoid other survivors, a typical situation of any apocalypse.

Five years after being locked in a bunker by his father, of which they have not known anything at that time, two brothers emerge to the surface to see first hand what happened to the world and find another way to survive.

Their names are Simone and Rasmus, who quickly know other young people with whom they are congenial, but also, they stumble upon other people with intentions as destructive as the rain itself. Running is valid, but always with your feet out of any puddle.

On May 30 of last year, Netflix announced the renewal of the series for a second season. At that time, the company reported that the production of the new episodes will begin at the end of 2018 and will be released in 2019.

“We are very grateful for the success of the program and the overwhelmingly positive response from the audiences,” said Jannik Tai Mosholt, one of the creators of the series in a Netflix statement.

“We still have many stories to tell about our characters and much more to explore in our universe, we can not wait for everyone to see it,” he added.

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, Netflix shared the first trailer of the second season of The Rain. The advance that has as its motto: “impossible to survive in solitude”, shows Simone in his search for a cure for Rasmus, who seems to have adapted to the virus and is out of control.

At the end of the first season of The Rain it is revealed that Rasmus is immune to the virus, therefore, he has the key to the cure, but getting it would kill him. When Simone discovers Apollon’s plans, she decides to escape from the shadowy corporation with Rasmus.

But, stops to realize that Martin, Lea, Jean and Patrick had already committed faults to the “supplements” of Apollon, meaning that the inactive version of the virus they have can be activated if they try to escape from the quarantine zone. Despite the danger of death, they all decide to flee.

The new episodes of the series created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo will probably focus on Sten looking for the group to capture Rasmus and get the cure. As Sten himself has said, his goal is to “control the world with the most dangerous disease I have ever known.”

After discovering that the rain does not transmit the virus, and that perhaps it has only carried it once. In one of the last scenes of the first installment, Sten is seen telling a group of unreliable businessmen that Apollon has “cloud planting technology”, which could be an indication that there was only a rain cloud full of viruses. There is still much that is not known about the origin of the virus.

The majority of the cast members of The Rain) will return for the second season. Alba August will return as Simone Andersen and Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen as her brother Rasmus, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as Martin, Sonny Lindberg as Jean and Jessica Dinnage as Lea.

Others that will also be part of the second installment of the fiction are Lars Simone as Andersen’s father, Dr. Frederik and Johannes Kuhnke as his infamous boss Sten.

Despite a lot of deaths in the first season, some of those characters could return in flashbacks, that is, there is still the possibility that we can see Beatrice Beatrice (Angela Bundalovic) again.

The second season of The Rain will premiere on May 17, 2019 on Netflix.
